BACKGROUND

We are affiliated with Professor Pedro Sauer, 7th Degree Red & Black Belt Master Instructor under Helio and Rickson Gracie.  In addition to training with Professor Sauer on his regular trips to Atlanta, we also train privately with Paul Creighton, who is a Black Belt under Renzo Gracie.

BENEFITS

Our approach to Jiu-Jitsu is self defense oriented.   Through practice, the ground is no longer an unknown environment.   You will develop flexibility, good aerobic conditioning, physical coordination and agility. The training also develops a lot of sensitivity and mental relaxation.  Our students learn to survive on the ground!

CURRICULUM

The curriculum consists of starting from a standing position and taking your opponent to the ground in many different situations, using throws, trips, and takedowns. Once on the ground we focus on controlling the opponent from dominant positions and escaping from weaker positions.  Once the student has a firm grasp of the basic positions, with the accompanying escapes, we work on developing submission techniques from the various positions.

We practice Gi grappling in our classes.   We feel that it is easier to go from Gi to No-Gi than vice versa, although we do encourage our senior students to incorporate no gi training as part of their development.

At the end of every class is "rolling", where we pair up and wrestle for submissions. This is where Jiu-jitsu excels, because of the constant alive training with a resisting & uncooperative partner!
