The concepts of Jeet Kune Do, or JKD, flow from Bruce Lees personal research into many systems. He developed his own system, completely customized to his personal attributes and skills. Sifu Dan Inosanto, personally chosen by Sijo Bruce to teach and spread JKD, has continued to support Bruce Lee's legacy in the Martial Arts. Recognizing that few people are as physically gifted as Sijo Bruce, Sifu Dan encourages his students to explore and create their own unique method of training, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining an open mind in your personal development.
Jing Mo Kuen is the physical methodology we use to train the concepts of Jeet Kune Do. The ultimate goal is to simplify as much as possible.
The Phoenix Martial Arts Academy would like to gratefully acknowledge the contributions of Sifu Dan Inosanto in his efforts to further the development of JKD after the passing of his friend and teacher.
You will work to develop your attributes to the highest level possible, as
well as acquire all of the possible tools needed to develop these attributes. These
attributes include everything from timing, range, speed, and power to the various tools
such as jab, cross, round kick, Thai kick, hand trapping, and grappling.
Once the tools are developed, you will learn to integrate the tools so that
you can apply the appropriate tool at the appropriate time.
The curriculum begins with Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai & basic Self Defense. It continues to evolve into the development of your personal art, which is expressive of yourself. No two people share the same abilities or attributes. Some tools will be more effective for one person, while another tool may work better for another. Develop each tool to the best of your ability, but your final resulting toolset that you apply in your training will be those that "fit" you the best. The system consists of many drills to learn and refine kicking, boxing, and trapping skills.
At the higher levels, we also spend a lot of time developing sensitivity using Hubad (a partner training drill we borrow from Kali) as a delivery system to develop controls, locks, takedowns & throws on a moving opponent. This is an excellent way to increase your sensitivity and timing.
Our ultimate goal is to able to apply the techniques successfully when our opponent is trying his best to attack us and/or defend himself from our attack.
Static training will only take you so far; you need gradually increasing resistance to develop your abilities to their highest level.
